Biography
I care about how I engage with my community; how art can communicate ideas about beauty, destruction, climate change, and growth.
Barbara has been exploring the connections between art and science for many years. Her works in painting, printmaking, and sculpture are inspired by the beauty and complexity of the natural world. She is fascinated by plant growth, landscapes, development of cells and microorganisms, and the complex anatomy of insects, animals, and humans. Her art works have been featured in juried exhibitions at the National Academy Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Gallery.
Education:
Barbara received a BFA from Syracuse University and MFA from Parsons School of Design in New York. She studied education theory and practice with Dr. Maxine Greene at Teachers College and CUNY Graduate Center. She studied sculpture, painting, and printmaking with Ronald Bladen, Jackie Brookner, Tom Butter, Charles Hinman, and Grace Knowlton. Barbara is a professional artist, art historian, museum educator, and art instructor.
Teaching and Learning:
Barbara works at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, leading art history tours, teaching art programs, and art classes for people of all ages and abilities. She has been a teacher and museum educator there for over 25 years. In 2021 she founded a new contemporary art exhibition gallery and art instruction space in Brooklyn, New York.
